The video needs to have spoken content that can be transcribed — pure music videos or silent clips will not generate useful quizzes.
Ingrain fetches the video's transcript, splits it into sections, and sends it to Claude (Anthropic's AI model) which writes questions designed to test the actual content of the video — not surface-level trivia.
Short videos get a handful of questions. Long lectures get more. The questions are spread across the full video so you are not just being tested on the intro.

Life happens. Ingrain forgives a single missed day automatically — your streak shows a snowflake instead of breaking.
Take a quiz the next day and your streak picks up where it left off. Two consecutive missed days resets it, so you still have a reason to keep showing up.
Popular videos are cached. If someone has already generated and rated a quiz for the same video, you get the cached version immediately — no waiting.
If the cached quiz has been rated poorly, Ingrain regenerates a fresh one for you. Either way, you get the best version available.

Every account gets a unique friend code. Share it with someone and they can send you a request — once accepted, you can see each other's recently completed quizzes.
Activity visibility is off by default for new friends and you can turn it off entirely in your profile. Quiz mastery is the only thing shared, never your full quiz history.
Ingrain offers a free tier you can use right away, plus an Ingrain Pro subscription that unlocks higher daily limits, unlimited quiz generations, and follow-up questions on completed quizzes.
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID and can be canceled any time in iOS Settings.
Local data is removed when you delete the app. Your account, saved videos, and quiz history remain on the server tied to your account so you can pick up on a new device — unless you ask for deletion.
