Overview
BloodChart is an app for tracking your blood test results. In this policy, "we" means its developer. Blood test results are health data, among the most sensitive categories of personal data there are, and this policy explains how the app is built so that they never leave your control.
Information the App Handles
Blood test data: the values, units, and reference intervals from lab reports you import or enter by hand, with the sample dates, the names of the healthcare provider and the laboratory, the sampling context (fasting, time of day, recent exercise, illness) and any doctor’s comment you note down. The doctor visit summary is built from this data when you open or export it, and is not stored separately.
Profile: your birth year and sex, if you enter them. They are used only to pick the reference interval that fits you, to compute phenotypic age, and to show the paragraph for your sex first in marker texts.
Imported documents: lab report PDFs you choose in the app. They are read entirely on your device; the values are saved after you review them, the PDF itself is not kept, and no document is ever uploaded anywhere for processing.
Health data (optional): if you connect Apple Health, the app reads your workouts, and only to mark a sample drawn within 48 hours of a workout. Workouts are never stored or synced, and the app writes nothing to Health.
We do NOT collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, or similar)
- Location data
- Device identifiers for tracking purposes
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Any data for advertising purposes
Data Storage
Local storage: all your data is stored locally on your device, encrypted by iOS.
iCloud sync: when iCloud is on for BloodChart, your data is stored in the private database of your personal iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit technology. Apple encrypts it in transit and at rest, and we have no way to read it. No health data is ever at rest on any server we operate, because we operate none.
Sync is automatic when your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, unless you turn iCloud off for BloodChart in iOS Settings. There is no separate switch in the app. Your results, their details, and your profile sync. App settings and Health workouts do not.
Backups: Like other app data, your data is included in your iPhone backups, including iCloud Backup if you use it.
On-device processing: PDF parsing, charting, and export generation all happen on your device. Nothing is sent out for processing.
Third-Party Services
BloodChart uses the following Apple-provided services only:
- iCloud / CloudKit: keeps a copy in your own iCloud account when iCloud is on for BloodChart (private database only)
- HealthKit: reads your workouts, with your permission, to mark samples drawn within 48 hours of one (optional, read only)
iCloud uses silent background notifications to keep your devices in sync. BloodChart shows no notifications. Links in the app, such as sources and support, open in Safari, Mail, or the App Store.
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking services. There are no SDKs from Facebook, Google, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any similar provider embedded in BloodChart.
Data Security
How your data is protected:
- All iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- Local data is encrypted by iOS
- We do not transmit your data to any external servers, because there are none to transmit to
- Files leave the app only when you share them, and you choose where each one goes
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data at all times:
- Access: view all your data within the app at any time
- Export: create a PDF summary for your doctor, or a full export of everything as CSV and JSON, from Settings
- Delete: remove a sampling occasion, or everything at once with "Erase all data" in Settings, which removes the copy on your device and the copy in your iCloud. Deleting the app alone leaves the iCloud copy in place. iPhone backups made before an erase are not affected.
- Portability: the full export uses standard formats you can open anywhere and keep indefinitely
- iCloud: you can turn iCloud off for BloodChart in iOS Settings at any time
Because we collect no personal data on our end, there is nothing for us to look up, correct, or delete on your behalf. All data management happens directly through the app on your device.
Children’s Privacy
BloodChart collects no information from anyone, children included. Your data goes only to your own iCloud (when iCloud is on for the app), your iPhone backups, and any export you choose to share.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, and the date at the top shows when it last changed.
We will never introduce data collection, analytics, or advertising without making this clearly visible through an updated policy and a prominent in-app notice, and any such change would ask for your consent first.
