Overview

PouchLess is designed with your privacy as a core principle. You should be able to track your nicotine consumption without giving up your personal data. This policy explains what data the app handles (very little) and how it is handled.

02

What Data is Collected

PouchLess collects only the data necessary to provide its core functionality:

  • Consumption logs: When you log a pouch, the app records the date, time, pouch type, and nicotine amount.
  • Pouch types: Custom pouch brands, strengths, and colors you create.
  • Goals and plan: Your chosen goal (quit smart, cold turkey, cut down, or keep stable), baseline consumption, target dates, plan history, and the reasons you gave for quitting, including any free text you typed.
  • Craving check-ins and trigger diary: How strong a craving was, what set it off, what you tried, how it felt afterwards, optional notes, and the time.
  • Cost tracking data: Box prices and pouch counts you enter for savings calculations.
  • Pacing and reminders: Whether pacing and its reminder notifications are turned on.
  • Subscription status: Whether Premium is active, as reported by the App Store. Never any payment details.
  • App preferences: Settings like language, appearance mode, and currency.

All of this data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party. When iCloud is on for PouchLess, it is also stored in your own iCloud account, as described under Data Storage.

03

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers for tracking purposes
  • Usage analytics or behavioral data
  • Crash reports or diagnostics (unless submitted by Apple through their standard process)
  • Any health data beyond what you manually enter
04

Data Storage

Local Storage: By default, all your data is stored locally on your device using iOS’s secure storage mechanisms. This data is protected by your device’s passcode and biometric security.

iCloud Sync: PouchLess syncs whenever iCloud is turned on for PouchLess in the iOS Settings app. There is no separate switch inside the app. Your data is then stored in your private iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit service. This data is:

  • Encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Stored in your personal iCloud container
  • Not accessible to us or any third party
  • Synced only to devices signed in with your Apple ID

To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for PouchLess in the iOS Settings app. To remove what is already stored, use Delete iCloud Data, described under Your Rights.

Apple Watch: The Watch app receives your data from the paired iPhone through Apple’s Watch Connectivity and keeps a copy on the watch. Nothing leaves your own devices.

05

Third-Party Services

PouchLess uses the following Apple services:

  • iCloud (CloudKit): Sync across your devices when iCloud is on for PouchLess. Your data remains in your private iCloud storage.
  • StoreKit: For processing in-app purchases. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
  • Notifications: Reminders (when your next paced pouch is due, and two days before a free trial ends) are scheduled on your device as local notifications. The app also registers for silent push notifications, which iCloud uses only to tell the app that new data is ready to sync. The push token is handled by Apple.
  • WidgetKit and Watch Connectivity: For home screen widgets and the Apple Watch app. This data stays on your devices.

One service outside Apple is involved:

  • YouTube (Google): The Learn section lists educational videos hosted on YouTube. When you open a video’s page in the app, its thumbnail is loaded from YouTube’s servers, so Google receives your IP address and the standard connection details of that request. Tapping play opens the video in the YouTube app or your browser, where Google’s privacy policy applies. PouchLess never sends any of your app data to YouTube.

Some screens link to outside websites, such as the sources behind the health information, the App Store, and this site. Opening a link takes you to that site, with its own privacy policy.

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising networks, or data collection services.

06

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All your data is visible within the app at any time.
  • Export: Export your complete data as a JSON backup, or your entries or statistics as CSV, from Settings → Data & Sync → Export Data. A JSON backup can be brought back with Import Data on the same screen.
  • Delete: Delete all local data from Settings → Data & Sync → Reset All Data. The app offers an export first.
  • iCloud deletion: Remove everything stored in iCloud from Settings → Data & Sync → Delete iCloud Data. Your data on the device is kept, and sync stays on, so the device uploads again unless you first turn off iCloud for PouchLess in the iOS Settings app.
07

Children’s Privacy

PouchLess is not intended for use by children under 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. The app helps adults manage nicotine consumption and contains content about nicotine use.
